The ancient Russian town of Plios, which has preserved its identity, is associated with clean air, incredibly beautiful nature and rustic silence. And also Plios, undoubtedly, possesses its magic, interweaving of meanings in which it is possible to plunge and with which it is possible to be drunk. It is no coincidence that it has long been a centre of attraction for creative and outstanding people.
When you come to Plios, you fall in love with it. Once they visit it, they stay in touch with it for life. Like a magnet, it attracted Levitan here. Almost 200 works of the great artist are connected with Plios. The genius of Russian opera Chaliapin, having visited Plios, immediately decided to build a house nearby.
Plios is that hidden Russia, which is revealed as a miracle. True, only to such a look, which is addressed not only to the external, but also to the internal.
There are just birches, sky, Volga, peace, silence, slow provincial life.
In Plios it is important to stop your running, to freeze, to exhale. To touch the sources. And breathe in the incredibly clean Volga air, as the great Russian river is surrounded here by cedar and oak groves. The expanses are characterised by intoxicating simplicity.
For a metropolis dweller resort Plios is simply indicated for recovery several times a year. Especially, if to include in the routes of its neighbourhood - for taking «forest baths», as it is formulated in oriental traditions. In Plios it is more important to spend time in the fresh air than in restaurants.
The main point of such places as Plios is a carefree country life. Ideally, you should have your own house here. This is a unit of happiness: just with your family and friends to drink tea from a samovar in your garden and look at the Volga.
The first mention of Plios dates back to 1141 (Nizhny Novgorod Chronicle). The city has its official history since 1410. The historical layout has remained practically unchanged until now. The notes of the XVII-XIX centuries can still be traced here.
With the development of shipping in the 19th century, Plios dacha houses began to be in high demand among holidaymakers. It was at this time that the Moscow landscape painter Isaak Ilyich Levitan came here with his friends. It is possible to tell, it was he who has made Plios the national property.
Within the framework of the project "Hidden Russia" Alexey Shevtsov and his family have revived 50 residential houses and non-residential buildings in the historical centre to a new life over 20 years. We are also actively recreating the unique atmosphere of Pliossk, building routes that allow you to feel the magic of these places. One more task of the project - to formulate philosophy of Plios as a place of force, only such which it is necessary to open, to find out itself. And our task is to help a little in this.
